The catalogue accompanies the exhibition of the same name at the Triennale Milano (27 January – 23 April 2023) and traces over sixty years of Angelo Mangiarotti’s work through a wide selection of works, projects, documents and unpublished materials accompanied by essays and testimonies by designers, intellectuals and his collaborators. A fascinating tale that proves once again that the ingenuity and refinement of Mangiarotti’s collections never end in themselves. Underlying his practice is an in-depth knowledge of the physical composition and tactile characteristics of materials, which are often used in a pure manner, never hidden or disguised, and practices that allow for workmanship in traditional ways or with the aid of new technologies resulting from time spent in close contact with craftsmen. An example of this is his experience with the Murano glassmakers who inspired him to design the shape of a handmade glass hook that connected with other identical modules to create the iconic Giogali lamp collection in 1967. Vistosi is present at the Triennale exhibition dedicated to the Maestro with two marvellous and imposing curtains of pure crystal Giogali hooks and in the volume where the genesis of the hook is recounted with a marvellous reconstruction of sketches, testimonies and stories.
