In the context of Expo 2025 Osaka, one of the most eagerly awaited international events of the year, ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Association for Industrial Design) is launching a special edition of the Compasso d’Oro International Award, in collaboration with the General Commissariat for Italian participation. The aim of the initiative is to bring the founding values of the Compasso d’Oro – design quality, social responsibility and innovation – to the global stage, contributing with design to outline a shared vision of the future, in line with the theme of the Expo: Designing the future society for our lives.
The exhibition dedicated to the selected projects will be hosted in the Italian Pavilion, designed by Mario Cucinella, and inaugurated on 5 September 2025. The architecture is inspired by the Renaissance Ideal City, with a square and theatre as symbolic places of encounter and exchange, and a suspended Italian garden overlooking the sea and the large panoramic ring of Expo.
In this context of excellence, Vistosi has also been called upon to share its experience, thanks to the selection of the Anisette collection, designed by Francesco Lucchese, among the finalists for the next Compasso d’Oro award and officially nominated for the international edition of the award.
Anisette: light as a sensory experience
Anisette is a pendant lamp born from the idea of combining technical value and aesthetic research. An upside-down lantern that enhances the visual and material qualities of glass, reinterpreting traditional iconography with a contemporary twist.
At the heart of the project are two diffused white glass diffusers that can be freely positioned to create four different lighting configurations. Attention to detail is also evident in the completely invisible mounting system, which avoids drilling and allows the height of the light source to be adjusted: a simple gesture, but one that is strongly oriented towards flexibility of use and clean lines.
The name of the collection evokes refined and sensory inspiration. Anisette refers to the milky effect created when aniseed liqueur is diluted with water: the suspended droplets refract the light, recalling the behaviour of opal glass, chosen for both the pendant version and the new table version. A poetic reference that combines form, function and narrative.
Recognition of the value of the project
Being selected for the Compasso d’Oro International Award and participating in Expo 2025 Osaka represents an extraordinary opportunity for Vistosi: not only to highlight the quality of Italian craftsmanship, but also to contribute to the global debate on the major issues of our time — from sustainability to the connection between people, from care to shared creativity.
Anisette strongly embodies the values of Made in Italy and authentically responds to the three sub-themes of the Italian Pavilion:
With Anisette, Vistosi brings its vision of light to Osaka: a living, transforming element that inhabits space and enriches its meaning. A symbol of Italian ingenuity that looks to the future without forgetting the strength of its roots.
