atelier oï

In this close connection with materials, experimentation summons both the know-how of the past and the skill of the craftsperson who processes the material and transforms it with passion and deep respect

FOUNDATION
atelier oï was founded in 1991 in La Neuveville, Switzerland, by Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond.
The name oï, derived from the Russian word “troïka”, a team of three, conveys the dynamism and holistic energy generated by a trio. atelier oï is the result of an alliance rooted in humanity and art. It’s about sharing values and ideals. The trio has been connected for 30 years by the intangible bond of the desire to grow and venture together on a journey that, however, never prevents them from taking their own paths. The alliance brings together open and creative minds, sharing their visions.
The deep-rooted involvement of the founders with architecture, design and shipbuilding, as well as contacts with charismatic personalities such as Alberto Sartoris and Ettore Sottsass, have shaped the philosophy of atelier oï . They strive to go beyond the boundaries of a single discipline.
At atelier oï, the idea of multidisciplinarity is summed in the word “atelier”, a place of creation, intellectual knowledge and manual know-how. On an international scale, their work ranges from architecture and interior design to product and set design.

PREMISES
Geographically speaking, atelier oï is at the crossroads of different cultures and influences.
Their premises, located in the former motel of La Neuveville in Switzerland, halfway between northern and southern Europe and across a linguistic border, is a real tool to support both the artistic approach and the projects. The three-storey building, renamed Moïtel, houses all the activities of atelier oï on an area of over 900 m². It contains the ateliers, a library of materials, a prototype workshop, office spaces, a photographic studio and a gallery dedicated to exhibitions and experiments.
It is therefore not only an atelier oï work space but also an experimental laboratory, a place for cultural exchange and events dedicated to their work. The Moïtel ceaselessly embodies, nourishes and inspires atelier oï, reflecting its creative and multidisciplinary soul.

PROJECTS
Since they started working together, they have wished to eliminate genres so as to highlight the possible transversality between architecture, interior design and set design. A multidisciplinary perspective, teamwork and close ties with materials and experimentation are at the heart of their creative philosophy: based on this concept, their project was founded and it has now been recognized all around the world.
The company has signed contracts with B&B Italiano, Bulgari, Driade, Foscarini, Moroso, Scottish Pringle, Röthlisberger, USM, Victorinox and Louis Vuitton.
