Giovanni Barbato

To design light you have to be a profound connoisseur of the secrets of glass

Giovanni Barbato was born in Padua in 1974.

STUDIES
He considers himself an emerging designer, loves essential but innovative styles. His training in the design sector is very wide and complete: industrial design courses in Padua, he studied glass processing techniques at the Scuola Abate Zanetti in Murano, and later attended the University of Architecture in Venice.

CAREER
From a very young age he cultivates a passion for glass and the school immediately comes into contact with the prestigious glassworks of the place, establishing partnerships and collaborations that see him from an early age sign artistic design projects in favor of numerous companies on the island of Murano.
Thanks to his experience in the field, he became one of the leading designers in the lighting scene, as well as the Italian one.
The artistic hand of the designer has peculiarities that distinguish it in the sector: the shapes are very simple and essential, clean and unique designed to recreate the perfect movement in the overall geometry.
Since 2013 he has been collaborating not only with the lighting sector, with brands such as VISTOSI, AXOLIGHT, DE MAJO, AV MAZZEGA, PRANDINA and AV LIGHT, but also designs for other sectors.
In the same year he was among the winners of the Good Design Award with the Spiry lamps,
Spiry is a suspension characterized by a curved aluminum diffuser painted white RAL 9016 matt that is screwed into the air in a sort of spiral that envelops the light seamlessly. The extreme complexity of the lamp construction is substantiated by the light, soft and enveloping result of the diffuser suitable for different types of furnishing moods. A prototype that will soon make the history of a company. Spiry, along with all selected products, will be on permanent display within the Chicago Athenaeum.
In 2017 he signed three important collections for Vistosi Vistosi Aria, Mirage and Surface. The clean shapes of these lamps highlight the preciousness of glass, while emphasizing the design and the play of light.
In 2019, Scintilla was born, recalling for its shape an inverted chalice. The LED light source creates enchanting light effects refracting in the bottom full of pure crystal made with skillful art by the master glassmakers of Vistosi.
