In the heart of Camberwell, an elegant suburb of Melbourne, a home has been completely redesigned to accommodate contemporary living with refinement and functionality. The renovation project has transformed the central spaces of the house into a large open space that integrates the kitchen, living room and dining room, blending the historic character of the original building with a modern and essential aesthetic language.
The original wooden flooring has been preserved and enhanced, while a new layout for the kitchen, bar area and TV unit has created greater fluidity between the functional areas and improved visual and spatial connectivity. High-quality materials such as dark wood panelling, neutral natural stone and smoked glass have been used to give the rooms a sense of continuity and sophistication.
Lighting plays a central role in defining the atmosphere, entrusted to the Puppet Ring collection by Vistosi, presented here in the version with transparent smoked glass and a satin-finish black nickel frame. Its design, featuring blown glass spheres with an irregular surface that diffuse a soft, vibrant light, enhances both the kitchen island and the large dining table, creating a refined balance between functionality and decoration. The multiplication of light elements punctuates the rhythm of the rooms, reinforcing their welcoming and contemporary character.
A project designed for everyday living but also ready to welcome moments of conviviality and entertainment, where every detail is the result of a precise and coherent design vision.
The project was carried out by Georgette Criticos, interior designer at GIA Renovations, a Melbourne-based studio specialising in high-end residential renovations. With a style that blends modern elegance and respect for the original character of the spaces, Georgette approaches each project with sartorial attention, enhancing materials, functionality and atmosphere.
GIA Renovations, based in Melbourne, is an established name in the Australian integrated renovation sector, combining design, construction and interior design in tailor-made solutions.
The photography is by Twinewood Studio, while the lighting was provided by MONDOLUCE Lighting, a leading Australian architectural and design lighting company and long-standing partner of Vistosi.
