A ten-year partnership with the Murano Glass Museum

MURANO GLASS MUSEUM
A ten-year collaboration with Vistosi
What we see today is the result of a long process of research and reconstruction that has led this site to become one of the world’s leading references in the history of glass.
The exhibition at the Murano Glass Museum is arranged in chronological order, starting with Roman artefacts (1st-4th century AD) and progressing through seven centuries of Murano glass history. Pieces ranging from the 14th century to the present day are on display, including authentic world-famous masterpieces. This itinerary allows you to learn more about the techniques used and discover fascinating aspects of an art that continues to evolve and live.
The journey unfolds through eight fundamental stages:
• The Origins
• The period between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries, known as the Golden Age
• The 18th century: between fashion and creativity
• Venetian Pearls
• From Mosaic Glass to Wildflower, with insights on Murrine
• From 1850 to 1895, the period of the Renaissance
• From 1900 to 1970, between Glass and Design
• The Spazio Conterie

Climbing the imposing staircase, you enter one of the most beautiful frescoed rooms on this site, where Vistosi, more than a decade ago, installed a curtain of pure crystal hooks, demonstrating how design and craftsmanship are a fundamental combination for creating unique works. When know-how and craftsmanship meet design, true icons of timeless beauty are born, a perfect synthesis of tradition and innovation.
This is the case of the Giogali collections, designed in 1967 by Angelo Mangiarotti for Vistosi.
Giogali, winner of the Compasso d’Oro award in 1969, introduced a new concept in the use of glass: a veritable modular lighting system, based on a single hand-worked crystal element (a sort of hook) that can be endlessly replicated to create structures that look like cascades of light.
The hook is the basic module that makes up the entire architecture of the Giogali system (the name comes from the Venetian word ‘giongher’, or the strap used in the countryside to tie the cart to the yoke), a modern Mangiarotti interpretation of the Venetian chandelier.
A long period of research, characterised by innovation of traditional forms, has led to the creation of the hook, which thus becomes a structural element of the chandelier itself.
Available in different colours, there is a table, ceiling, wall and hanging version: the basic element can be hooked together in series to form crystal chains, which in turn can be assembled to create endless formal solutions, such as chandeliers of any size that become real scenographic backdrops between rooms.

Vistosi has always supported the Museum over the years, also participating in the printing of the precious book ’ The world in a pearl, the collection of the Murano Glass Museum’, which collects and tells the story and the production of these glass jewels, some of which are kept inside display cases in a dedicated room, the result of a long cataloguing work that began in the 14th century and continues to this day.

Vistosi also proudly supported the Murano Glass Museum in the realisation of the ‘Toys’ exhibition, an innovative project designed to spread the culture of handmade glass. The exhibition created a ‘playroom’ where large glass reproductions of the most loved toys by children of different generations were displayed. No longer a simple display of glass to ‘look at and not touch’, but a real interactive and multimedia installation, where even adults had the opportunity to play and rediscover the pleasure of childhood. The project involved fourteen Murano glass masters, who put themselves to the test with a theme far removed from their traditional production, creating unique works that tell the story of childhood through the art of glass blowing.
The uniqueness of the island of Murano, its history, its canals frozen in time, the Glass Museum and our Giogali await you for a truly unique visit.
