The history and prestige of the Red Dot Award

The Red Dot Design Award boasts a tradition of over 60 years. On July 30, 1954, at the initiative of Professor Dr. Carl Hundhausen, head of Public Relations and the Advertising Department at Krupp, the “Verein Industrieform” association was founded. The goal was to create a more attractive environment, modernize German consumer goods for export, and contribute to reshaping Krupp’s image in the post-war period. In 1955, the first annual design competition was held, and on October 5 of the same year, the “Ständige Schau formschöner Industrieerzeugnisse” (Permanent Exhibition of Elegant Industrial Products) was inaugurated at Villa Hügel in Essen. This innovative exhibition of consumer goods became a benchmark, serving as a model for both industry and consumers, and gaining worldwide attention. In 1990, the association was renamed “Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen” (DZNRW). With the appointment of Professor Dr. Peter Zec as managing director in 1991, the logo was changed to a red dot, first used as an award symbol in 1992. Today, the Red Dot Design Award is one of the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of design, divided into three main categories:

  • Product Design, dedicated to physical products.
  • Brands & Communication Design, focused on visual identities and communication strategies.
  • Design Concept, which rewards innovative ideas that have not yet been realized.

Red Dot winners are entitled to use the famous “Red Dot” logo, which has become a seal of excellence valued by companies and consumers worldwide.

Vistosi and the nominated collections: Anisette, Groove, and Plissé.

Hello, we are Vistosi, and today we want to share a story that fills us with pride. When we talk about design, craftsmanship, and innovation, our hearts beat faster: it is this passion that inspired us to submit our Anisette, Groove, and Plissé collections to the Red Dot Design Award. Yes, you heard that right: we are ready to play in the Champions League of design!

Why the Red Dot matters to us

The Red Dot nomination is not just a recognition but a unique opportunity to show the world what it means to be Made in Italy: creativity, beauty, functionality, and a touch of audacity. Each collection we present represents a fusion of tradition and modernity, combining the mastery of our artisans with the pursuit of innovative solutions.

An important milestone: our first Red Dot.

Our journey into the world of Red Dot began in 2017, when we won for the first time with the Sata collection. This milestone marked a pivotal moment in our history, motivating us to continue innovating and creating designs that make a lasting impact.

The collections in the running.

Anisette

Anisette is a collection that is unforgettable. Its modern geometries, inspired by the shape of a lantern, strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. The unique coupling system conceals the structure, leaving ample space for the pure beauty of glass. And it doesn’t end there: the satin crystal diffusers can be arranged in four different configurations, offering endless customization possibilities. This collection has already won the hearts of experts, earning awards such as:

  • ADI DESIGN INDEX
  • German Design Awards 2025

Groove

If you love clean lines and the allure of minimalism, Groove is the collection for you. Inspired by the design of the 1960s, it combines regular surfaces with soft details and highly refined metallic finishes. Thanks to its flexible structure, Groove adapts to any space and need, transforming every environment into a masterpiece of style. Groove has also already been awarded with:

  • German Design Award 2024
  • Good Design Awards 2024

Plissé

And then there’s Plissé, a collection that captivates at first glance. Its shapes are inspired by the elegant movement of jellyfish, with blown glass enclosing an inner fabric lampshade. The play of transparencies and textures creates a unique and refined atmosphere in any space. Plissè has already earned the following recognitions:

  • Good Design Awards 2024
  • Smart Lighting Awards

Our commitment

This nomination is not just a dream for us, but a moment to show the world what it means to love our work. It is the celebration of a journey driven by passion and attention to detail.
