Vistosi wins its first Compasso d’Oro International Award with Anisette at Expo 2025 Osaka

After more than 500 years of history and five honorable mentions, Vistosi wins the prestigious international award for the first time

Vistosi makes history in the world of design: the Anisette collection, designed by Francesco Lucchese, has won the Compasso d’Oro International Award, the highest global recognition for Italian design, after five honorable mentions in the company’s history without ever having claimed victory. The award ceremony took place on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. (local time) in the Auditorium of the Italy Pavilion, designed by Mario Cucinella Architects, at the heart of Expo 2025 Osaka.

The event, promoted by ADI – Association for Industrial Design in collaboration with the General Commissioner for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, featured institutional speeches by:

  • Mario Vattani, Commissioner General for Italy
  • Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE)
  • Luciano Galimberti, President of ADI

Anisette interprets light as a sensory and poetic experience: a suspension lamp that blends aesthetic research with technical value, featuring two adjustable shaded white crystal diffusers capable of creating different lighting configurations. The collection’s name recalls the delicate milky effect of anise liqueur diluted with water, evoking the tactile and visual qualities of opaline glass with a strong narrative and poetic resonance.

This victory marks an unprecedented milestone for Vistosi: it not only highlights the excellence of Italian craftsmanship and design, but also underscores the company’s role in shaping a contemporary language of light, capable of merging aesthetics, functionality, and innovation, while engaging with major global themes such as sustainability, inclusion, and human connection.

The 20 winning projects, including Anisette, will be on display in the Italy Pavilion, open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (local time) until October 13, 2025, offering Expo 2025 Osaka visitors the opportunity to explore the most innovative and significant solutions in contemporary design.

The awarded projects will automatically become part of the collection preserved and exhibited at the ADI Design Museum in Milan. The award ceremony will also be presented there on December 9, 2025, to showcase the best international design to the Italian public. On this occasion, the exhibition dedicated to the winning projects will be inaugurated, open until January 6, 2026, offering a unique opportunity to explore and delve into the highlights of this edition of the award.
